At Sheppey Matters we try combining a range of learning, educational opportunities and qualifications in the arts and broadcasting with our Healthy HeArts approach with funding from Colyer Fergusson. Below is a quick overview of just two of our programmes; Blank Canvas which is a previous project and the YAF project which is on-going. As an Arts Award Good Practice Mentor we continue to support Arts Award advisors and deliver arts award qualifications.

Blank Canvas 2
Over August 2016 , 15 young people with additional needs from New House Youth and Sports Club took over the task of decorating a corridor with a life sized mural of arts and sports and young people.
At the beginning of 2015, 11 young people (aged 16-24) not in work, education or training, or had some form of disability, started to work on the Blank Canvas project.
The project was to make letters using various artistic techniques (from painting to using a tablet) to spell out ‘THE ISLE OF SHEPPEY’. Each letter covers a different aspect of the Island, ranging from HMS Princess Irene to Queen Sexburga.
Once the letters were made, they were displayed at the Sheppey Gateway at the end of March with a legacy piece of artwork created for the outdoor space . Following on from that the letters are now on permenate display at the enterance to Sheerness train station.
