A Charity led fully accessible local transport service offering, day trips around Kent, Minibus hire for Care Homes, Community Groups and Schools. Sheppey Wheels is an award winning community Transport Scheme, an was established in 2006 with the aim to provide a much needed transport link for the community and voluntary sector. We currently have a fleet of three community minibuses, the buses and their uses are as follows –
Our Ford Tourneo 9 seater bus was purchased using funding from KCC and is for children with additional needs (with parents and carers) and for additional needs groups and provides travel to hospital appointments, day trips, shopping etc. We provide the driver and the diesel, and all we ask is that you pay a small contribution, the mileage and parking fees.
Our Ford Ducato supports Blackburn Lodge providing a vaulable community service by transporting residents to and from their homes.
For trips out and about and events, including our Eastern Shopper shopping outings, we have a 16 seater mini bus providing an excellent opportunity for indiivuduals and groups to get involved, get active and take part. Our Sheppey Wheels project is a membership only community transport scheme and is FREE to become a memeber.
The day trips are to a variety of locations across Kent, Essex, Sussex and London. They are aimed at all residents within our community, especially those who may not have access to public transport easily and/or accessibilty needs, all our mini buses can hold at least two wheelchairs. We also provide near to home collections for residents with disabilities or mobility issues.
We also run the Eastern Shopper, which is a service predominantly aimed at those based on the eastern end of the Isle of Sheppey and runs to and from Maidstone shopping centre once a month.
In conjunction with Sustainable Sheppey we offer transport for various community groups to the Green Mill allotments project in Eastchurch.
